Solid African Iroko Worktops - FSC Certified

Milicia excelsa

Found on the west coast of Africa, Iroko is a large hardwood tree that is often referred to as African Teak, despite not being related to the Teak family. Its association is quite simply because of its similarity in looks with the more expensive wood.

The wood itself is strong and dark brown, although it is initially a pale yellow colour, developing into the rich chestnut brown colour over the first few months – as its exposed to light.

Iroko wood has a number of purposes – for furniture, flooring, cabinetry and even boatbuilding.

So why do we use Iroko?

Being both stable and durable, Iroko is a lovely wood to work with. It finishes well, having a medium to coarse texture, with open pores and interlocked grain. It is naturally rich in oils which makes it one of the most durable hardwoods particularly suited for use in kitchens and bathrooms.

The colour of Iroko worktops is striking – making it a great addition to your home.

Resourcing our wood carefully

All of the wood that we use has FSC certification. This means that we can trace the origin of the wood from the forest to your finished worktop. This ensures the quality of the wood itself and on a wider scale, we know that as a business, we are working ethically with social and environmental benefits.

Iroko Worktop Grades

Unlike many online retailers, we offer a comprehensive choice of grades, so that you can design your perfect worktop.

Nature Grade

No tree is the same and our nature grade worktops reflect this.

The wood can contain small knots, some of which may have been filled with a suitably coloured wood filler. Some of these knots may have some of the natural variation of colour and grain that occurs within that particular wood.
