With its strength and its rich red to reddish browns, Cherry offers a distinctive wood for your worktop. At Puretree, we source our Cherry from Europe and further afield from America.
Traditionally, cherry trees were grown for their fruit and wood. Today, they are now predominantly used for furniture production, flooring and making decorative veneers. If burned, the wood produces a smoke that is similar to the smell of its flowers.
In the past, the cherry tree wasn’t a lucky thing to encounter - according to Highland folklore, if you were to come across one, it was considered to be fateful. Luckily this is a thing of the past!
Generally, cherry trees can grow up to 30 metres high and live to approximately 60 years old.
Cherry is known for being a great wood to work with. It has a smooth, fine texture with a close and wavy grain; not to mention the occasional gum pockets that look stunning when oiled.
Pure Tree Cherry Worktops have a beautiful warm, soft, rich cherry red colour which matures during the first year. As a relatively soft timber, care must be taken to avoid damage to the surface.
Cherry is renowned for its strength and stability, which makes it ideal for use as a kitchen worktop – for us making the worktops but also for our customers.
All of the wood that we use has FSC certification. This means that we can trace the origin of the wood from the forest to your finished worktop. This ensures the quality of the wood itself and on a wider scale, we know that as a business, we are working ethically with social and environmental benefits.
We offer a range of styles for your Cherry worktop – choose from Block style, Wide Stave, End Grain Block Style and End Grain Wide Stave. Not to mention the choice of grades, offering Nature and Character.
It's all about choice - from the wood to the grade to the finishing touches - create your own bespoke worktop.
